McDonald's Promotes for Consumer Focus Role

In the US, fast food giant McDonald's has promoted Kevin Newell to the new position of Executive Vice President - Global Chief Brand Officer, responsible for marketing, consumer insights, menu innovation and restaurant design.

Kevin NewellNewell worked for agencies Burrell Communications and Leo Burnett Worldwide before joining McDonald's in 1989 as a Field Media Manager in the international marketing department; he subsequently held several positions in regional marketing.

After leaving to join Viacom's BET cable network as VP-General Sales Manager in 2004, he returned to McDonald's in 2006, most recently serving as US Senior and Restaurant Support Officer, responsible for operations, talent management, diversity planning and the support of business strategies for more than 4,000 restaurants.

In his new role, which he takes up on Tuesday, Newell will also provide strategic input on corporate social responsibility. He will report to Don Thompson, McDonald's President and COO, who comments: 'Kevin has a solid background in marketing, brand building and operations, which McDonald's has benefited from for more than 20 years. He understands how to connect with our customers in compelling and relevant ways.'
