August 28 2012

The US Census Bureau has partnered with technology and marketing services consultancy Sapient to launch its first mobile app, which provides real-time information on sixteen key economic indicators.

Teresa BozzelliThe Bureau - which launched an API a month ago to help developers produce Census data apps - provides data to inform decisions across local, state and federal government agencies, including for policy and resource allocation. The information is also used in the private sector to inform commercial investments, and by the public to make decisions that impact in areas from education and employment to retirement.

The new America's Economy app offers access to economic data through smartphones and tablets, as well as additional indicators from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Bureau of Economic Analysis for use in economic forecasts, market research and financial decision-making. Key features include an overview of indicators impacting the US economy; the option to share data on Facebook, Twitter and by e-mail; and the ability to set up notifications and custom views.

Teresa Bozzelli (pictured), President of Sapient Government Services, comments: 'This launch is part of our continued efforts to help agencies embrace emerging technologies and understand consumer behavior, to improve citizens' access to critical information and services, and to boost agency effectiveness and responsiveness.'
