McDonough Joins Asda in Key Marketing Role

Former Molson Coors MD of Brands Chris McDonough has joined Asda as Marketing Director, as the Walmart-owned UK retail giant restructures its marketing department.

McDonough took up his new role on 7th May, six months after leaving beer brand Molson Coors, and takes overall charge of the supermarket's marketing strategy and communication planning, as well as its insight, pricing and data function. He reports to Asda CMO Steve Smith.

McDonough joined Molson Coors at the start of 2010, and led a 350-strong team and oversaw the firm's $5bn global brands and innovation programme. Before joining, he was Marketing and R&D Director for Muller UK, and worked at Mars Petcare and Bacardi-Martini.

Smith welcomed McDonough's 'well-rounded marketing experience coupled with his professional management capabilities and ability to nurture talent', and added: 'Chris brings a deep understanding of our business and our customers which will stand him in good stead to lead overall delivery of our strategy.'
