comScore Momentum Continues Despite Privacy Case

August 5 2014

Digital measurement bigwig comScore has announced results for the second quarter of 2014. As usual, revenue is up significantly - the new figure of $80.0m is 14% higher than Q1 2013. While adjusted EBITDA is up 20% to $16.7m, reported net loss rose to $3.2m on the back of expected losses in a legal settlement.

no stopping comScore's revenue rise...In April, the company reported revenue up 14% to $76.9m and net loss down to $782k from $2.0m. This time round, the latter figure was affected by 'the accrual of contingent losses expected' from its proposed settlement of an outstanding class action litigation over the unauthorised collection of personal information.

Subscription revenue rose very strongly year-on-year (up 22% to $72.6m) while project revenue declined down 28.8% to $7.4m. Q2 EBITDA margin rose one point to 21% of revenue. Comparisons allow for the firm's divestment of its Non-Health Copy Testing and Configuration Manager products in March 2013.

President and CEO Serge Matta said the strong performance reflected the firm's 'continued sharp execution on its key strategic priorities and positive momentum across the business.' He commented: 'vCE continues to be a leader in digital measurement as we advance our long-term, strategic partnerships with Yahoo and Google to provide essential digital, mobile and video analytics to global advertisers seamlessly. We are also pleased to announce an expansion of our relationship with GroupM as a Preferred Strategic Partner, allowing us to further grow our vCE client base.'

vCE will be further enhanced by today's acquisition of MdotLabs, which provides sophisticated ad fraud detection technology.

For the full year, the firm expects revenue in the range $320.5m to $329.5million and adjusted EBITDA of between $62.5m and $69.5m.
