WPP's Aqua Buys Applogix

September 1 2014

In South Africa, WPP's majority-owned digital agency Aqua has acquired marketing and ecommerce tech company Applogix, whose design and development services are based on UX and user needs research, and web analytics.

Applogix was founded in 2005 and employs around twenty people in Johannesburg. Buying it gives Aqua, which is part of WPP's Wunderman division, stronger capabilities in the mobile and ecommerce space. Applogix had unaudited revenues of ZAR 10.3m for the year ended February 2014.

In addition to 'powerful web analytics tools', Applogix begins its development work by using a combination of surveys, 'contextual enquiry' and modelling to help understand clients and their requirements.

WPP says the buy once again helps towards its target of 40-45% of revenue 'to be derived from digital in the next five years'. The revised target was set just over a year ago, so it should be reached in or around August 2018.
