Jesse James GarrettFounded in 2001, Adaptive Path offers a range of digital product design resources, alongside strategy, research and service design work. It also organises UX conferences and workshops around the world.

In a blog post, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Jesse James Garrett (pictured) said that over the years, the firm had been approached by a number of people wanting to buy the business. Explaining the reasons why Capital One was selected, he added: 'They've already laid the groundwork. They've built sophisticated practices in digital product design, design thinking, and experience research and development that we can build on and cross-pollinate with our own practices. They are genuinely creative, collaborative, and, well, fun people.'

As part of the deal, Adaptive Path will remain on Pier 1 in San Francisco, and will retain its own name and branding. In addition to focusing on solving experience design problems for Capital One, the firm will continue to put together events such as UX Week, UX Intensive, and the Service Experience Conference.
