Salesforce Catches Big Data Wave

October 14 2014

Salesforce, already in the news last week for partnering with SurveyMonkey, has announced its own entry into the analytics market with the launch of a platform called the Wave Analytics Cloud.

Salesforce launches into analyticsThe new platform, which makes use of data from existing Salesforce products, will be available from next week on desktop and Apple iPhone, with launches planned for other devices. Salesforce says the platform is 'designed for every business user' and promises clients the ability to 'quickly deploy sales, service and marketing analytics, or build custom mobile analytics apps, using any data source' from any device.

Wave boasts 'schema-free architecture', removing the need for data to be pre-sorted or organized, and aims to gives business users the same feel as consumer apps filtering a mass of information, for example to get travel quotes. However, it also promises more power for the professional analyst, who for example can mix relevant third-party data sources in a single dashboard.

CEO Mark Benioff comments: 'Today, Salesforce is disrupting the analytics market, just as we disrupted the CRM industry 15 years ago. We're not only connecting companies with customers in a whole new way with our Customer Success Platform, we're empowering companies to know their customers like never before with the groundbreaking Wave Analytics Cloud.' President, Products, Alex Dayon follows up: 'The Wave Analytics Cloud eliminates the painfully slow, complex and unintuitive legacy approaches that have long separated business users from their data - finally, there are analytics for the rest of us.'

On Friday, DIY online research firm SurveyMonkey announced a new app allowing users to send and analyze surveys from within Salesforce.
