Catalina Promotes for Chief Data Officer Role

In the US, point-of-sale data giant Catalina has promoted Dak Liyanearachchi to the role of Chief Data Officer, overseeing its Insights and Analytics division and the use of its database of shopper purchase history for behavioral insight.

Dak LiyanearachchiThe firm, which is majority owned by Boston-based investment company Berkshire Partners, offers in and out-of-store marketing platforms to help clients deliver targeted messages to consumers. It also taps into transaction-level shopper data for approximately 90 million households and 130 million health consumers annually, and has a joint venture with Nielsen through which the companies have created the BuyerGraphic media targeting tool for television and online advertising.

Liyanearachchi (pictured) joined the firm in 2007 as SVP, Global Retail Solutions, and more recently served as its SVP, Global Data & Analytics. Prior to this he was a director at LBM Direct Marketing (now part of Convergys), and he worked for retail data giant dunnhumby as Global Business Development Director.

In his new role, Liyanearachchi will lead a team using Catalina's data and insights to deliver omnichannel campaigns for retail and brand customers. According to CEO Jamie Egasti, 'Dak is unmatched in his ability to uncover consumer insights through data and analytics to enable true omnichannel delivery for CPG retailers and brands.'
