Return Path Launches Consumer Insight Service

July 29 2015

In the US, e-mail analytics specialist Return Path has launched a new 'Consumer Insight' service, providing a detailed view of the spending patterns and brand loyalties of more than two million consumers.

Eric WeinbergReturn Path's analytical products pull transactional information from online purchase receipts to give brands insights into their marketing ROI, uncover how consumers interact with competitors' campaigns, and generally help understand how people spend their time and money. Last year, the firm acquired rival company Motley Bunch, to support its investment in analyzing consumer shopper behavior; and then secured a $35m investment to fuel sales, marketing and product development.

The new Consumer Insight service captures high volumes of online purchase receipts to allow analysis of buying preferences and patterns, and includes access to SKU-level data, itemized pricing and delivery information. Data is collected through Return Path's network of more than two million e-mail users who explicitly grant access to their mailboxes in exchange for the use of e-mail-focused productivity tools developed by Return Path and its partners.

Eric Weinberg (pictured), the firm's President of Field Operations, comments: 'No data source offers a richer, more complete view of how consumers spend their time and money than the e-mail inbox. By providing highly detailed information on the buying habits, brand loyalties and interests of a large, representative consumer sample, we can help research firms, financial services providers, those in the digital advertising ecosystem and global brands understand their markets and their audiences to make better informed, more confident business decisions'.
