WPP and MB Launch BrandZ Top 50 in Indonesia

August 19 2015

WPP and it subsidiary Millward Brown (MB) have conducted their inaugural BrandZ brand equity study in Indonesia, uncovering the country's top 50 most valuable brands.

Indonesia: 'A country whose time has come'MB describes BrandZ as 'the world's largest brand equity database and most reliable source of branding knowledge and insights'. The offer is based around research in more than 30 countries, examining consumer attitudes to tens of thousands of brands. A global ranking of the 100 most powerful / valuable brands was launched more than nine years ago, and the company now also publishes Top 50 listings for Latin America, China and India.

The new BrandZ Indonesian Top 50 study combines financial data from Bloomberg and Kantar Worldpanel with consumer opinions gathered from over 350 brands in 28 categories. The combined brand value of this Top 50 stands at $64.6bn, putting the value of Indonesia's strongest brands close to that of the Top 50 Indian brands ($69.6bn), but only one-seventh of the value held by China's Top 50. The Top 5 Indonesian brands alone account for 57% ($37bn) of the value - a concentration of power that is mirrored in the India, China and Brazil rankings.

David Roth, CEO of WPP's global retail practice The Store, comments: 'This is a country whose time has come. While China and India have been grabbing headlines, Indonesia has transformed into the economic powerhouse of Southeast Asia. The country is in the midst of social and economic change on a massive scale, making it an extremely attractive market for global and local brands alike as this study proves'.
