NOMi Receives In-Store Tracking and Analysis Patent

October 29 2015

In-store marketing analytics provider NOMi has been awarded a patent for the tracking and analysis technologies available in its Brickstream LIVE sensor device.

'Halt... you are moving in the wrong direction!'Launched in January, this device provides stereo vision analytics to anonymously detect people and their movements, and measure their behaviour in a physical space. Not only can the device count entries and exits and distinguish between people and carts, it can also identify groups moving together, such as families. In addition, it can be used to identify abnormal behaviour such as people moving in the wrong direction or running away, and will send alerts to encourage security staff to review surveillance videos.

The new patent broadly relates to this integrated multi-lens video platform, with integrated software for collecting data from each lens, and merging the same into a unified data output. NOMi now has a total of twelve patents granted for technology currently used in its family of Brickstream sensors.

CTO Ralph Crabtree comments: 'Previously, if a company wished to capture a high-resolution video stream for security while also executing high quality stereo vision analytics, at least two separate sensor systems would be necessary. Furthermore, the sensor can be configured to support both LP applications and accurate business analytics such as door counting or service monitoring'.
