Google Buys Eye-Tracking Tech Firm Eyefluence

Google has acquired California-based eye-tracking technology firm Eyefluence. Terms have not been disclosed.

Jim Marggraff and David StiehrFounded in 2013 by serial entrepreneurs Jim Marggraff and David Stiehr, Eyefluence offers eye-interaction technology for integration with head-mounted displays used in virtual reality environments. The firm's team comprises UX designers, engineers, mathematicians, computer vision experts, computer scientists, and artificial intelligence and machine learning specialists.

Since its launch, Eyefluence has raised $21.6m in two rounds from investors including Intel Capital, Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, NHN Investment, Dolby Family Ventures, and Jazz Venture Partners.

Marketing Manager Michelle Hodgden said in a blog: 'Today, we are excited to announce that the Eyefluence team is joining Google. With our forces combined, we will continue to advance eye-interaction technology to expand human potential and empathy on an even larger scale. We look forward to the life-changing innovations we'll create together'.
