YouGov Data Products and Services Drive H1 Growth

YouGov has reported a revenue rise of 24% to £51.4m for the six months to 31st January 2017 - equivalent to 8% on a constant currency basis. The rise was driven by 'strong growth' in the firm's subscription-based Data Products and Services business.

Stephan ShakespeareData Products and Services revenue increased by 39% (24% in constant currency terms) to £22.0m, and now represents 43% of the total, compared with 38% in 2016. Revenue for BrandIndex rose 36% to £9.2m, for Profiles 176% to £1.4m, and for Omnibus 38% to £10.2m. Custom Research revenue was static in constant currency terms (up 15% in reported terms), although adjusted operating profit for custom increased by 26% to £3.5m.

The USA - the group's largest region in revenue terms - grew by 29% (8% at constant currency) and increased its adjusted operating profit by 31% to £4.3m. UK revenue rose by 8% and its operating profit by 21%; revenue in the Middle East region fell by 3% in underlying terms (up 16% in reported terms). In Germany, the business delivered 37% revenue growth (15% in local currency), while France saw 41% overall growth (19% in local currency), helped by a strong performance from BrandIndex; and Asia Pacific maintained its growth with a 91% revenue increase (60% in local currency terms).

During the period, the group's adjusted operating profit climbed 33% to £5.7m (14% on a constant currency basis), and operating margin was up 1% to 11%. Commenting on the results, CEO Stephan Shakespeare (pictured) said: 'I am pleased to report another strong period of organic revenue and profit growth. Trading during the second half of our financial year has started positively and is in line with our expectations. We have built a strong base and continue to see significant opportunity to further grow revenues from Data Products and Data Services and deliver on our long-term objectives'.
