Apple Execs Launch Foot Traffic Analytics Firm

May 18 2017

In the US, two former Apple engineers have launched a foot traffic counting and analytics firm called Dor, with $3.8m in seed funding.

Gregg Golembeski and Michael BrandUsing proprietary thermal sensing technology combined with machine learning algorithms, Dor's platform features an analytics dashboard that integrates with POS (point of sale) systems to automatically calculate and track conversion rates. Even weather data can be included, to help retailers better understand what affects traffic to their stores. The solution, which requires no professional installation or Wi-Fi and can be stuck on any door, can be used by both small retailers and large chains, as well as museums, libraries and offices.

The San Francisco-based firm, which was set up by Gregg Golembeski and Michael Brand, has received seed funding led by Vertex Ventures and Zetta Venture Partners, whose MD Ash Fontana says: 'Dor matches the accuracy of competitive products at 1/15th of the cost. Monitoring traffic at such low cost - with no installation or maintenance - allows retailers to understand their customers at a level never imagined. This ease of use also opens up new markets, allowing customers to use Dor to optimize commercial building maintenance, measure space utilization and for security'.
