Patent for Location-based Data Firm Reveal Mobile

August 14 2017

Location-based audience data specialist Reveal Mobile has been awarded a US patent for its technology, which determines the specific location of a mobile device through beacon proximity activity, while also predicting where the device is likely to appear next.

Brian HandlyThe firm's location-based audience data, derived from GPS, Bluetooth beacons and WiFi, creates segments that can be used for relevant ad targeting and retargeting. Through the technology, advertisers can use a device's historical location data to determine not only the locations and retailers a device is likely to visit beyond its current location, but also the date and times it is likely to visit them. Processing more than twenty million beacon events per day, Reveal Mobile claims to own the world's largest source of first-party beacon location data.

The new patent, for 'Predictive Analytics Utilizing Proximity Determination', covers the invention of a method for refining and reporting the specific location of a beacon (eg the name of the establishment such as a restaurant or retail store) and the identity of the mobile device at the time of activation. CEO Brian Handly (pictured) comments: 'One of the greatest challenges in mobile advertising is getting an accurate sense for where people visit in the physical world. Our patented beacon recognition technology addresses the need for creating highly accurate physical location identification of mobile devices'.
