Advance Invests in Games and Esports Analyst Newzoo

Business intelligence company Advance Publications and its affiliates (Advance) have acquired a majority stake in games and esports analytics firm Newzoo. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Thijs HagoortAmsterdam-based Newzoo, which also has an office in San Francisco, helps professionals understand the consumer trends driving change in digital media and tech, providing data to support decisions on marketing, sales and product development. The firm's product portfolio includes the Global Games Market Report, the Global Esports Market Report, and its proprietary Consumer Insights, profiling consumer behavior and preferences in 28 markets across the globe. Newzoo also offers bespoke research services for its subscribers, along with brand tracking services such as the Gaming Peripheral Brand Tracker.

Advance operates and invests in a broad range of media, communications, and technology businesses globally, with interests in Sports Business Journal and Leaders, Reddit, Condé Nast, GQ and 1010data. As part of the partnership, Advance says Newzoo will also support the expansion of Sports Business Journal's portfolio to include market intelligence, data and analytics for the traditional sports industry, much like Newzoo has done for games and esports.

Thijs Hagoort (pictured), CFO and co-founder of Newzoo, comments: 'We will use the investment to expand our organization and global presence, particularly in Asia and the US. This capital will also be used to increase investments into big data processing, machine learning, and interface technology that will power Newzoo's upcoming services and future ambitions'.
