Valassis Names New CEO

October 15 2019

In the US, shopper targeting firm Valassis has promoted Cali Tran to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, replacing CEO Dan Singleton who will move into a senior advisory role for parent company Harland Clarke Holdings.

Cali TranValassis integrates online and off-line data to target clients' most valuable shoppers wherever they 'plan, shop, buy and share'. Last year, the firm was issued with a patent for its 'data hygiene process', used for personalization and ad targeting. This technology connects it database of hundreds of millions of US addresses with marketing software, allowing geographic, demographic, behavioral and/or motivational shopping data to be integrated with brand and retailer information.
Tran (pictured) joined the business in 2013 as SVP Technology and Business Development of MacAndrews & Forbes (parent of Harland Clarke Holdings) and was promoted the following year to the role of President of Valassis Digital. Earlier in his career, he was a Principal at North Bridge Venture and Growth Equity Partners, where he invested in wireless and digital media technology entrepreneurs. He is also a founder and investor in other technology-driven companies.

In his new role, Tran is tasked with transforming the ways brands connect with consumers and driving the company's continued digital media and marketing strategy. John O'Malley, CEO of Harland Clarke Holdings, comments: 'Cali's progressive and dynamic leadership style will continue to drive our innovative culture, build customer-centric solutions and meet the diversified omnichannel needs of our clients. Cali has proven success in leading our strong talent base and data-driven, technology-forward assets to accelerate profitable growth'.
