Checkout Survey System for Co-op

August 14 2007

UK convenience store chain Co-op Group is to conduct customer satisfaction surveys at the point of sale using its EPOS system.

Using the PIN pad, the Group can now survey up to 300,000 customers and process the data within 24 hours, according to Development Manager Lawrence Freeman, quoted on technology news site Silicon.com. Requests for feedback are displayed on a small screen as consumers pay for their shopping. Whether or not the service will provide a permanent alternative to the mystery shopping work it is said previously to have commissioned around five times per month, remains to be seen.

Initially, the system has been installed in 20% of the Co-op's 1,700 stores - it will be rolled out further in 6 months' time if all goes to plan.

The Co-operative Group and United Co-operatives amalgamated two weeks ago to form the world's largest consumer co-operative with a turnover of more than £9 billion, 4.5 million members and 87,500 employees and over 4,500 trading outlets throughout the UK, ranging from food stores to funeral homes. Its corporate web site is at www.co-operative.co.uk/corporate.
