Vehicle Launch Index Powers Up

In the US, automotive specialist JD Power and Associates has launched an index to provide auto manufacturers with information that quantifies how well a new vehicle model performs during its launch years. Peformance for the new ‘Vehicle Launch Index’ is measured against industry and segment benchmarks on a monthly basis, and includes all vehicle launches in the US since 2007 to enable tracking of current and future launches. Research and modelling is combined with an industry-wide perspective and proprietary Power Information Network (PIN) data, to provide the tool with the ability to assess multiple factors that the firm says are critical to launch success. ‘This index enables manufacturers to gauge the marketplace success of their newly launched vehicles through an external, independent source,’ states Gary Dilts, SVP of Global Automotive. ‘It provides a real-time, comprehensive view into marketplace activity, allowing manufacturers to quickly respond to ever-changing industry conditions.’ Headquartered in Westlake Village, California, JD Power and Associates is on the web at www.jdpower.com .
