Pitney Bowes Forms Insight Arm
January 29 2009

In the US, document management giant Pitney Bowes – the parent of location intelligence provider MapInfo – has formed a new division to help market its data analysis services.

The new unit will combine local and communication intelligence with predictive analytics for firms that need a more complete view of their customers.

MapInfo will join other Pitney Bowes-owned firms Group 1 Software and Encom Technology, to operate as one division called Pitney Bowes Business Insight (PBBI). However, the company will continue to use the three brand names to identify and describe their product categories.

Murray Martin, Pitney Bowes’ Chairman and CEO said that the unit will enable the company to deliver a broader range of products to help companies ‘reduce operating costs, make more intelligent decisions and enhance bottom line results’.

The company currently employs around 1,700 employees at its headquarters in North Greenbush, New York.

Last October, MapInfo updated its AnySite Australia tool to include a detailed forecast of population, housing and income data for the next ten years.
