Harris to Explore Retirement Market Perceptions

In the US, Harris Interactive has partnered with retail financial consultancy Mercatus to deliver a new retirement industry forum, where executives will explore retirement industry issues.

The new Strategic Retirement Perspectives forum will provide a platform for cross-industry discussion about how the recent marketplace turmoil is impacting the retirement services industry and how retirement solutions providers will need to respond.

Attendance will be by membership only, with corporate participants representing those who deliver retirement services including: broker dealers, financial planners, insurance companies, banks, and an array of financial services providers who deliver products for retirees and those planning to retire.

Issues to be addressed could include the impact of the market downturn on consumer retirement planning, how the financial advisor community is responding, and areas of specific interest to those companies who are program members.

'Market turmoil has derailed the investment plans of many Americans, and companies are still scrambling to make sense of what the next 3-5 years hold for their businesses,' explains Humphrey Taylor, Chairman of The Harris Poll. 'We're delighted that Mercatus, whose retirement experts share the view that even most severe threats can become great opportunities, will join us on the path to discovery.'

Strategic Retirement Perspectives will kick off in June with a roundtable discussion among the members about research needs and other gaps in knowledge. Consumer and Financial Adviser insights will be gathered over the summer and results will be reported in early September.
