UCLA Appoints Former P&G Marketing Guru

In the US, the UCLA Anderson School of Management has appointed Procter & Gamble's former Global Marketing Officer Jim Stengel as Marketing Professor, to teach a course in brand marketing.

Jim StengelStengel joined P&G in 1983 in a branding role, and held the position of GMO for seven years before leaving last summer. During his tenure, Stengel was credited with transforming P&G's brand through a focus on deep consumer understanding.

He is currently President of his own think tank and consultancy, Jim Stengel, LLC. He has also served as Chairman of the Association of National Advertisers, sits on the Board of Advisors of marketing sciences firm MarketShare Partners, and is a Director of the Motorola Corporation.

Stengel's course, which will begin in the 2009-2010 academic year, will combine traditional brand management concepts with a new marketing framework outlined in his forthcoming book: Packaged Good.

'Jim Stengel's appointment at UCLA Anderson is not just a win for the school; it's a win for academia,' said Dean Judy Olian. 'His deep knowledge and experiences will provide an exciting opportunity for our students to learn from a marketing leader who has transformed some of the world's most visible brands, and his collaborative work with our faculty will enrich the field of marketing research.'
