KantarHealth Takes Pulse of Asian Giants

KantarHealth is expanding its CardioMonitor service into Japan and China, a major step towards its goal of providing a globally consistent cardiovascular and diabetes patient database.

The service, which is based on online patient diaries, will add 4,500 Japanese patients in December 2009 and 4,500 Chinese patients in February 2010.

CardioMonitor covers all major cardiovascular disease states and related risk areas, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, atrial fibrillation and type-2 diabetes, and helps pharmaceutical and biotech companies to size opportunities, identify treatment dynamics, position products and sharpen forecasts. Data includes patient demographics, diagnoses, results and measurements, prescribing dynamics and the factors in physicians' treatment decisions.

Christine Brignall, the firm's Senior Director, Global Syndicated Studies, says the Asian markets are becoming 'increasingly critical to clients' business success' and highlights 25% annual growth in the pharmaceutical industry in China, and forecasts of a 300% increase in the over 65 population in many Asian markets by 2025.

KantarHealth was formed by uniting WPP companies Consumer Health Sciences, MattsonJack, TNS Healthcare and Ziment, and has more than forty offices throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.
