EmSense Third Round Raises $9m

Brainwave measurement technology firm EmSense has raised $9m in Series C funding, which it will use to continue its global expansion in support of its many market research partners, and develop a bio-sensory in-home panel - which it claims will be the first of its kind.

Keith Winter and Roger QuyEmSense, which is headquartered in San Francisco, offers emotion tracking, cognitive neuroscience and analytics, as well as market research through its EmGear wireless headset. This uses an EEG sensor to measure the electrical activity of the brain, an accelerometer to detect motions and facial twitches, and a heart-rate monitor that can gauge stress rates.

The firm's latest round of funding has been led by venture capital company Technology Partners, with existing investor the Foundry Group also participating.

Technology Partners' General Partner Roger Quy has a PhD in Neuroscience and a research background in neurotechnology, which Emsense President & CEO Keith Winter says makes him particularly well suited to advise the company.

'We believe that neuromarketing is now mainstream and is poised for explosive growth,' states Quy. 'Over the past year we conducted extensive diligence on the neuromarketing space and chose EmSense based on their highly-scalable business model, numerous clients, and key market research partners.'
