Outsell Buys Content and Technologies Specialist

In the US, information and publishing industry research specialist Outsell has acquired The Gilbane Group; an analyst and consulting firm specialising in content and technologies. Terms were not disclosed.

Outsell's team provides fact-based analysis and advice about competitors, markets, operational benchmarks, and best practices from its headquarters in Burlingame, CA, and offices in London and in Cambridge, MA. It boasts 'the only 360-degree coverage' of the information industry.

Founded in 1987, Gilbane provides coverage of advances and trends in content technology across areas such as web content management, multilingual content, enterprise search, enterprise social media, and publishing. The firm also sponsors conferences on content and information management technologies in North America and Europe.

It will now operate as The Gilbane Group, a division of Outsell under the leadership of founder Frank Gilbane who will remain as President. The firm will remain in Cambridge, MA, where Gilbane will be joined by its team of analysts and consultants led by Mary Laplante, VP Client Services and Senior Analyst, and Bill Trippe, VP Content Strategies and Lead Analyst.

'As a result of our two firms coming together, Outsell will be better able to serve our core markets of publishers, information providers and enterprises making content technology decisions, as well as investors looking at emerging content technology companies,' explained Greg Chagaris, Outsell's co-founder and Corporate Development Officer.

This is the third transaction that Outsell has completed since its1998 founding. In 2006, the company acquired EPS (Electronic Publishing Services) of London, and in 2008, it acquired the Business Research Division of Eduventures to strengthen its coverage of educational content and technology providers.
