IHS Buys Energy Market Intelligence Firm for $18m

In the US, IHS - which provides intelligence on the energy and environment sectors - has acquired Emerging Energy Research for around $18m.

Jerre SteadEmerging Energy Research, which was established in 2003, has offices in Cambridge, Mass, USA, and in Barcelona, Spain, conducts market research and analysis on the clean and renewable energy markets. The firm uses market and competitive analysis, business intelligence, and strategy assessment to offer clients advisory and consulting services, as well as market studies about emerging technologies in global energy markets.

Work is conducted by an international team of researchers, industry analysts and strategy consultants, who focus on three core segments: utilities, power developers/independent power producers, and manufacturing (clean technology supplier chain).

IHS - which has been in business since 1959 and employs about 4,100 people in 28 countries - says the acquisition will 'significantly enhance' its energy and environment business offerings, while strengthening its position in the climate change and alternative energy information market.

'Emerging Energy Research's innovative offerings strongly complement our integrative analysis of climate change policy and alternative energy technologies, and our alternative energy company-level analysis,' stated IHS Chairman and CEO, Jerre Stead.'

Emerging Energy's President and founder William Ambrose said his team is excited about joining IHS, whom, he describes as a 'leader' in helping clients navigate the energy landscape.
