Blue Banana Bought

UK ad agency McCann Manchester has announced it will acquire research firm The Blue Banana Agency, for an undisclosed sum.

The Blue Banana name will remain and its five employees will work with McCann's planning team at Bonis Hall in Prestbury; in addition, a viewing facility will be set up at McCann's city centre operation Metro.

Based in Little Lever Street Manchester, Blue Banana was founded in 1990 and named after a phenomenon noticed in satellite images of western Europe, a banana shaped zone of industrialised areas stretching from north western England down to Italy. The firm specialises in new product development and innovation programmes using qualitative methods and planning expertise.

McCann Manchester planning director David McGlone says Blue Banana's expertise 'perfectly complements the McCann skill set' and will help the firm to build a digital-focused NPD and innovation offering in a number of markets.

Blue Banana MD Jamie Peate believes the deal is 'a great fit and will allow us to develop our offering to a broader spectrum of clients' as well as creating new services.
