HuffPost Buys Pollster.com from YouGov Polimetrix

In the US, online news and opinion site the Huffington Post (HuffPost) has acquired opinion poll platform Pollster.com from YouGov Polimetrix. Terms were not disclosed.

Arianna Huffington, nee StassinopoulosThis is HuffPost's second acquisition in less than a month, following its purchase of sentiment analysis firm Adaptive Semantics at the end of June.

The news site says the acquisition will enable it to expand on Pollster.com's polling, analysis and commentary to complement its own political and election coverage.

Pollster.com, which is owned by YouGov Polimetrix but hosted on NationalJournal.com, pulls together political poll results from polling companies into its own charts.

Its Editor and Publisher Mark Blumenthal said in a blog that the deal will 'super charge everything we do', while improving the overall quality of the site as well as 'the power' of its interactive charts. Blumenthal will join the HuffPost as Senior Polling Editor.

'By aggregating polls and using interactive charts, Pollster.com has increased the accuracy of the kind of polling data that has come to dominate the media's election coverage,' said Arianna Huffington, HuffPost Editor in Chief and founder. 'The site's polling analysis will be a great addition to our political coverage - and will make it possible to pull back the curtain on how polls are conducted.'

Also joining HuffPost as part of the acquisition will be polling analyst Emily Swanson, who will become Associate Polling Editor. Pollster.com co-founder and University of Wisconsin Professor Charles Franklin will continue to contribute blog posts and analysis.
