Keynote Launches Build on Solid Year

US-based Internet and mobile monitoring specialist Keynote Systems has reported encouraging results for its fourth fiscal quarter and more mixed figures for the full year ended September 30, 2010. The firm has also launched enhanced versions of its web performance monitoring and testing tools.

Headquartered in San Mateo, California, Keynote was founded in 1995 and provides testing, monitoring and measurement products and services for clients including online portals, e-commerce and B2B sites, mobile operators and infrastructure providers.

Chairman and CEO Umang Gupta says the fourth quarter saw 'strong signs of growth from both Internet and mobile businesses for the third quarter in a row' with a continuing good increase in mobile subscriptions. He adds: 'We strengthened our balance sheet by adding almost $6 million in cash and investments during the quarter.'

Fourth quarter revenue was up from $19.7m the previous year to $20.5m. GAAP operating income roughly doubled to $1.1m and net income rose from $537,000, or $0.04 per diluted share to $1.2m, or $0.08 per diluted share. Non-GAAP net income was stable at $2.4m, or $0.16 per diluted share, while adjusted EBITDA was $3.6m, or 17% of revenue, up from $3.1m (16%) a year earlier. Cash provided by operating activities jumped from $1.4m to $4.8m.

For the full fiscal year 2010, results were more mixed, with revenue down just fractionally from $80.1m to $79.9m; operating income down from $2.9m to $2.2m, and net income roughly halved at $1.7m, or $0.11 per diluted share (2009 $3.3m or $0.23 per diluted share). Non-GAAP net income fell from $10.8m ($0.75 per share) to $7.6m ($0.51); and adjusted EBITDA was $12.3m, or 15% of revenue, compared to $14.4m (18%) the previous year.

For the first fiscal quarter of 2011, the firm expects total revenue of between $21.8m and $22.3m and non-GAAP earnings per diluted share between $0.16 and $0.19.

Keynote has also announced the immediate release of Transaction Perspective 10.0 for Web performance monitoring and Keynote Internet Test Environment (KITE) 4.0 for Web performance testing.

The subscription-based Transaction Perspective is an on-demand service for monitoring, measuring and diagnosing web site performance from the end-user perspective using Keynote's global test & measurement network, while KITE is Keynote's free downloadable desktop tool for real time testing, diagnosing and troubleshooting of web performance issues. The new versions add support for Firefox to their existing coverage of IE, giving clients a clearer view of how their web sites are experienced by end-users across browsers.

Vik Chaudhary, VP of Product Management and Corporate Development, comments: 'Keynote recognizes the increasing complexity of monitoring the Internet and mobile cloud across devices, locations and browsers and now brings our customers a seamless view into end-user performance from practically anywhere in the world.'
