eBay Buys GSI for $2.4 Billion

Internet auctioneer eBay has acquired online marketing specialist GSI Commerce for $2.4 billion. The buy gives eBay access to GSI's database management and segmentation tools, as well as its advanced advertising analytics solutions.

John DonahoeGSI provides brands and retailers with platforms to engage directly with consumers. The firm recently acquired advanced ad analytics firm ClearSaleing, which offers marketers insight into their online ads through its Multi-Brand Attribution solution.

eBay, which also owns the Paypal online payment group, says the acquisition of GSI will improve shoppers' experience while helping the world's largest companies further embrace the online marketplace.
