Thomson Reuters Seeks Healthcare Analytics Sale

Information giant Thomson Reuters is planning to sell its Healthcare business, which provides data, analytics and performance benchmarking services to companies, government agencies and healthcare professionals.

Thomas GlocerThe division offers a range of solutions - such as research database MarketScan, healthcare payers decision tool Advantage Suite, clinical reference Micromedex, reporting suite CareDiscovery, and hospital operating trends tool ActionOI - combined with expert analysis. In 2010, the business had revenues of c.$450m.

Thomson Reuters says that while it is a 'growing and profitable unit', the Healthcare business lacks the integration with and global scale of its other units, and that funds raised from the sale could be 'better applied' elsewhere in the portfolio.

'Our Healthcare business is recognized for its innovative solutions and its expertise which are critically important to its customers,' states Thomson Reuters CEO Thomas Glocer. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of our talented employees who have built the Healthcare business into a successful and profitable unit.'

Thomson Reuters was formed in 2008 following publishing giant Thomson's acquisition of global news agency Reuters. Following the sale of its Healthcare business, the company plans to realign its Intellectual Property and Science business into a single operation unit of its Professional division.
