MediaCom Opens Sports Sponsorship Division

WPP agency MediaCom Worldwide has launched a new division focused on global sports sponsorship, MediaCom Sport, and appointed former IMG Consulting exec Marcus John to lead it.

Mediacom says the division will work in four main areas: strategic advice, rights negotiation, rights activation and measurement.

In a decade at IMG, John rose to SVP and Managing Director of the group's Asia-Pacific Consulting wing. In his new role, he will work oversee the management of the firm's relationships with key sporting bodies, and will work closely with the Entertainment Sports Partnerships division of MediaCom's parent GroupM, and its new North American CEO Bryce Townsend.

MediaCom's Chairman and CEO Stephen Allan says clients 'now require a more global and deeper understanding of the sports arena' as they invest more in the area and concern themselves more with securing ROI.
