inVentiv to Acquire Two SDI Businesses from IMS Health

IMS Health has found a home for two of SDI's product lines, after the Federal Trade Commission determined they must be sold for competition reasons following IMS' acquisition of SDI. US healthcare consultancy inVentiv has acquired the businesses for an undisclosed sum.

Nader Naeymi-RadBack in October, IMS parent Healthcare Technology Holdings agreed to sell two parts of the SDI business - its promotional audit and medical audit businesses - to an FTC-approved buyer. The divested products represent less than $15m, or approximately 10% of SDI's 2011 revenue.

The two businesses will now be incorporated into inVentiv's market research and analytics group Campbell Alliance, to add promotional and medical audits to its existing range of services which include qual/quant research, opinion leader analysis and anonymised patient and prescription data.

Nader Naeymi-Rad, CEO of Campbell Alliance, comments: 'We're seeing a growing demand for proprietary research services from our clients and believe that our enhanced market research capabilities, particularly the ones acquired on the syndicated side, will allow us to establish a leadership position in that market.'

The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions and approval by the FTC following a public comment period, is expected to close in February.
