Retail Surveillance Analyst Lands $7.5m

Retail video analytics startup Prism Skylabs has secured a $7.5m Series A investment, adding to the $1.5m in seed funding it raised on launching last year.

Steve RussellSan Francisco-based Prism Skylabs was set up by Steve Russell (pictured), who previously founded digital video security company 3VR, and Ron Palmeri, the founder of MkII Ventures. Their firm captures and analyzes images from existing video surveillance cameras, and uses them to provide information on customer patterns, trends, and behaviors taking place in retail environments. It can also show the path shoppers are taking in a store, and generate a heatmap of people in high or low traffic areas, down to the room or shelf level, for display on 'any device'.

Series A funding has been led by new investors Triangle Peak Partners and Pacific Partners, with support from Andreessen Horowitz, IDG Ventures, Anthem Venture Partners, Eagle, MkII Ventures, SeriesG, and Data Collective.
