SlimSurveys Promises Survey Monkey 'Antidote'

The founders of photo sharing site TweetPhoto have set up a DIY mobile survey platform called SlimSurveys, in a bid to take on companies like Survey Monkey which they claim provide a 'terrible experience' for survey takers.

Monkey-bashers? SlimSurveys founders bad mouth DIY MR LeaderSean Callahan, Rodney Rumford and Daniel Marashlian have built the SlimSurveys platform to enable participants to take a mobile device enabled survey of no more than seven questions in length, and lasting a maximum of 30 seconds. The system is optimized with simple tap responses through which users only see one question at a time, and images can also be embedded into questions to speed up the process.

Research conducted during the beta phase found that people have 30 second pauses while they are in a queue to order food, waiting for the train, riding in the car, waiting for TV commercials and so on, and during these pauses always have their phone with them, making it the optimal time to take a quick survey.

Rumford claims that unlike most existing quick survey tools - which he describes as 'antiquated, ugly, with radio buttons everywhere, complex matrixes, and lots of questions' - SlimSurveys provides a time-saving approach which focuses on the consumer experience.

Callahan explains: 'Philosophically we are the anti-Survey Monkey. They give you all these tools and let you build a really terrible experience for your survey takers. We have optimized and streamlined the experience so that the user will always have a great time efficient experience no matter who builds the survey.'
