Splunk to Buy Mobile Device Analyst BugSense

US analytics software company Splunk is to acquire BugSense, which enables users to analyze data from hundreds of millions of mobile devices through its cloud platform. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Panayiotis PapadopoulosBugSense was founded in 2011 by a team of developers, and is led by CEO Panayiotis Papadopoulos (pictured). Its solution provides users with analytics for mobile app performance, app quality, troubleshooting and usage, based on data from devices running the major o/s including Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

Splunk says the acquisition will boost its customers' ability to analyze machine data directly from mobile devices, and correlate it with other machine-generated data to gain operational intelligence.

Godfrey Sullivan, Chairman and CEO of Splunk, comments: 'BugSense has a strong mobile development team and is an exciting addition to our product portfolio. Our goal is to make it easier for customers to gain insights from machine data generated by mobile devices, along with other machine-generated data, across Splunk's core use cases in IT operations, security, application management and business analytics.'
