SurveyMonkey Eyes Germany for Further Expansion

Palo Alto, CA-based DIY research specialist SurveyMonkey is scouting around various German cities in search of a potential location for a new office.

Dave GoldbergSurveyMonkey provides online subscription-based tools that enable individuals to create and run surveys, and analyse responses. The firm has recently launched an Enterprise version for corporate users.

Last week, the firm announced plans to open an office in London's Tech City, where it will hire up to 50 sales, marketing and business development specialists. While in Berlin launching the Enterprise product in Germany earlier this week, CEO Dave Goldberg told Venturebeat magazine that the German market, where it has 200,000 users, is a top priority and is the largest market in the EU outside of the UK.

'We're here because we plan on eventually having a sales team in Germany. Part of what this trip is about is figuring out where in Germany works for an office,' he told the magazine.

Earlier this year, SurveyMonkey raised $800m in debt and equity recapitalization led by Goldberg and Tiger Global Management, providing liquidity for employees and early investors, and enabling new and existing shareholders to invest / invest further in the business. At the time, Goldberg said the transaction provides all the capital benefits of a public offering, without the costs and distractions of an IPO and the demands of operating as a public company.
