IPO for Semantic Tech Firm Expert System

Modena, Italy-based semantic technology company Expert System has raised more than $27m in an Initial Public Offering on the AIM Italia stock exchange. The firm says it will add sales and technical staff in the US, and open a new office in San Francisco.

Expert Systems already has US offices in Barrington, IL, and Rockville, MD. The firm's patented Cogito semantic platform help clients extract meaning and find hidden relationships, trends and events from unstructured data. Semantic and natural language search, text analytics and natural language processing are all included in its solutions.

According to Expert Systems, the IPO is the largest in AIM Italia history. CEO Luca Scagliarini (pictured) comments: 'It's now time to expand our global reach in the US as we expect our business there to more than double in 2014. This investment underlines our focus on helping organizations in some of the most information intensive industries get real value from their data.'
