Nielsen Twitter TV to Launch in Australia

Nielsen has announced that it will launch its Twitter TV solutions in Australia in the second half of this year, capturing and analysing chat on the social network as it relates to specific television programmes.

The services include the Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings, announced for the US in December 2012 and scheduled for roll-out in Italy in the autumn. Twitter also works on ratings with GfK in central Europe, and Kantar in the UK and Spain.

Nielsen says 44% of Australia's online population participates in 'social TV', sharing comments on programmes. According to Andrew Somosi, President, Nielsen SocialGuide: 'The consumer phenomenon of social TV - people connecting through social media to enhance how they watch live TV - continues as an important global trend. We're excited to expand our Twitter TV solutions to Australia where the TV industry can use these insights to better understand consumer behavior, measure engagement efforts, and refine media planning and buying efforts.'

The service, which counts more than 90 networks, agencies and advertisers as its customers in the US, is online at www.socialguide.com .
