Another Buy for Buoyant IHS
US-based information and analytics firm IHS has returned to the acquisition trail with the purchase of merchandise trade data provider Global Trade Information Services (GTI).
 Columbia, SC-based GTI was formed in 1993 and provides trade data at a specific product level from all major world markets to more than 1,100 clients in more than 50 countries. It also has an office in Geneva, Switzerland. The company's Global Trade Atlas gives detailed information covering more than 90 percent of international world trade.
Scott Key (pictured), IHS President and CEO, comments: 'Global trade flow drives demand for our core IHS industries. With Global Trade Atlas, a fully web-based system, IHS will have detailed information on all commodities and other cargo types down to a highly granular level. Combining this valuable GTI trade data with existing IHS capabilities will enable us to create new value for our government and industry customers engaged in global trade.'
In the last three years, IHS has bought energy specialist Purvin & Gertz, flat panel MR firm Displaybank, UK-based electronics researcher IMS Research, engineering data firm GlobalSpec, semantic research technology provider Invention Machine, automotive research firm R. L. Polk (for $1.4bn), oil and gas data firm PFC Energy and Latin American petrochem consultancy Intellichem. In March, it reported quarterly revenue up 37% to $524m, including organic revenue growth of c.5%.
