Ipsos Deal Gets Fairfax Polling Again

In Australia, Fairfax Media will be publishing political polls again through a partnership with Ipsos, after Nielsen pulled out of its contract with the publisher earlier in the year.

Sean AylmerIn June, Nielsen announced it would no longer be conducting the monthly Fairfax Nielsen Poll, which it had been running for the prior nineteen years. At the time, Nielsen said it had made the decision in order to focus on its core work of measuring consumer purchasing and media consumption.

In Nielsen's place, the new telephone-based Fairfax Ipsos Poll will tap into a sample size of 1400, and deliver ten federal polls a year, along with state-based polls on demand. The first of these will be published later this month in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, along with The Australian Financial Review.

Fairfax will obtain access to Ipsos' monthly Global Advisor report, which surveys 19,000 respondents from 24 countries on issues ranging from economic sentiment to global issues; and to the agency's monthly Issues Monitor, which surveys Australians on what they feel are the main issues facing the country and their state.

Fairfax Media Director of News and Business Sean Aylmer (pictured) comments: 'Ipsos is a globally respected, independent pollster and its reliability of polling accuracy and global credentials are a perfect fit for Fairfax's quality, independent journalism. As well as the federal and state polls, Fairfax is able to access in-depth research and the latest insights into the mood of the nation and issues that concern Australians.'
