WAPOR Names New President

Public opinion research association WAPOR has named Patricia Moy as its new President, replacing two-year leader Alejandro Moreno.

Patricia MoyMoy is the Christy Cressey Professor of Communication and Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Washington, where she teaches political communication, public opinion, media effects, communication theory and research methodology. She is also current Editor of Public Opinion Quarterly and a former President of the Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research (www.mapor.org ). She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Moreno says the past two years have been an honor and 'a great experience', and says WAPOR is 'in very good shape' in its mission to assist public opinion research in different regions of the world. He adds: 'As President, I enjoyed and learned a lot from our collaboration with AAPOR and ESOMAR.'

Mike Traugott will rejoin the Council next year as Secretary Treasurer, replacing Claire Durand who moves to the role of Vice President and President Elect.

Moreno also notes the recent loss - on November 28th, at the age of 87 - of Past President Hans Zetterberg, founder of Swedish research firm Sifo in 1970 and its President from 1975 to 1986.
