Light Reading Launches Africa and Middle East Service

Research-led media group Light Reading has launched its first region-specific research service, focusing on Africa and the Middle East (AME).

Guy Zibi and Dennis MendykThe firm is based in the US and provides research and advisory services via an MR division Heavy Reading, as well as producing online publications, webinars and live events. In 2005, the company was acquired by UBM business unit CMP Media, and last year it was bought back by co-founder Stephen Saunders.

For the new initiative, Heavy Reading has partnered with Xalam Analytics, a new research business led by Guy Zibi, an expert on telecom markets in the AME regions. The partnership combines Heavy Reading's expertise in telecom technology and services, with Xalam's knowledge of the business, technology and political issues that shape the telecoms landscape in the two regions.

Light Reading plans to develop a full range of online and media programs focused specifically on the AME markets, including live events, webinars and other educational programs, and expanded news coverage. Dennis Mendyk, VP of Research at Heavy Reading, comments: 'AME is a rich mix of opportunities and challenges for telecom network providers and technology suppliers. We're excited to help our clients forge successful strategies in AME, and we've found the ideal partner in Guy Zibi and Xalam Analytics.'
