Big Data Firm Tamr Raises $25.2m

In the US, big data analyst Tamr has raised $25.2m in a Series B round of financing, which is will use to grow sales and invest in product engineering for its data unification platform.

Andy PalmerTamr was founded in 2013 by serial big data entrepreneurs Andy Palmer and Michael Stonebraker, who previously co-founded Vertica Systems (acquired by HP) - along with Ihab Ilyas of the University of Waterloo, George Beskales, Daniel Bruckner and Alex Pagan. The firm combines machine learning algorithms with collective human insight to identify sources, understand relationships and curate siloed data, aiming to give customers a 360-degree view of their businesses.

New funding comes from Hewlett Packard Ventures; Thomson Reuters, and MassMutual Ventures, with participation from existing investors NEA and Google Ventures.

Commenting on the announcement, CEO Andy Palmer (pictured) said: 'We have strong and deep relationships with our partners at Hewlett Packard, Thomson Reuters and MassMutual Ventures, and we're looking forward to extending our partnerships with them.
