Shopper Intelligence Firm AreaMetrics Raises Funds

Seattle-based customer intelligence specialist AreaMetrics has raised $2m in a seed round of funding, which it will use to expand the reach of its product, and add new staff to its executive team.

The firm's platform is used by shopping malls and brick and mortar retailers to gain insights into customer demographics and shopping patterns. The tool recognizes customer behavior through bluetooth beacon technologies and a community of mobile partners; and large retailers and restaurants use its insights to A/B-test marketing campaigns, generate traffic, and increase sales.

New funding has been led by Startup Capital Ventures and Quest Venture Partners, with participation from other early stage investors including Seraph Group, Social Starts, and previous angel investors. CEO and co-founder Brandon Bennett (pictured) says the financing 'allows us to further improve the efficiency and strength of our offering as we work to empower our customers with cutting-edge technology and excellent service'.
