SurveyMonkey Debuts Election Tracking Product

DIY online survey platform SurveyMonkey has launched an election tracking polling product, giving subscribers access to polling data for the 2016 US Presidential, Senate and Gubernatorial elections.

Jon CohenThe product taps in to more than 10,000 interviews collected every week, and in total SurveyMonkey will interview about two million voters, with respondents randomly selected from the more than 90 million responses the platform receives every month. In addition to national data, the product includes data from 'battleground' states, and the 34 states with Senate races, and twelve states electing governors this fall. Analysis can be conducted by gender, age, race, education, income and geography; weighted by Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statisics data. Additionally, the data can be filtered by state and week.

Developed by SurveyMonkey engineers, the new product is overseen by CRO Jon Cohen (pictured), former Head of Polling at The Washington Post and Pew Research; and Head of Election Polling Mark Blumenthal, who previously co-founded Pollster.com. Commenting on the launch, Cohen said: 'This presidential cycle will be historic for many reasons, but it will also break new ground in the way pollsters, campaigns and media are able to track opinions along the way'.
