New Funds for Emotion Analyst Beyond Verbal

Tel Aviv, Israel-based emotion analytics specialist Beyond Verbal has raised $3m in a Series A round of funding. Money will be invested in future research projects, the recruitment of additional data scientists, and development of new emotional features.

Launched in 2013, with rounds of $2.8m in seed funding and then a further $1m, the firm uses ten-to-fifteen second clips of speech, analyses voice modulation, and seeks specific patterns in the way people talk, in order to understand emotions like anger, anxiety, happiness and satisfaction. The proprietary software then picks up nuances in mood, attitude and decision-making characteristics.

The new funding round was led by the Chinese investment outfit the Kuang-Chi Group, with participation from technology funds Winnovation and Singulariteam, and brings total funding to $10.1m to date. CEO Yuval Mor (pictured) comments: 'This funding will enable us to enhance our world leadership position, and continue our efforts into researching the connection between vocal intonation and health issues'.
