Leadership Change at Nielsen Book Australia / NZ

In Australia, Nielsen Book General Manager Shaun Symonds has left the company after seventeen years, to seek 'new opportunities', and Julie Winters has been appointed to head up the Australia and New Zealand business.

Books!Nielsen Book provides sales data monitoring and analysis of the English-language book industry worldwide. As well as tracking end-user consumer sales from a panel of book retailers, the business collects total transactional data at the point-of-sale directly from tills and despatch systems of all the major book retailers, discount departmental stores, online stores and a weighted representation of independent stores.

Symonds has been with Nielsen Books since 1999, and has been instrumental in driving commercial relationships with BookScan and BookData clients throughout the territory. In a statement, the firm said Symonds' knowledge of the business has been an important factor in its success, and that his efforts have been greatly appreciated.

Winters began her career with Nielsen as an Analyst in Sydney back in 2001. She then moved to the UK, where she worked for Nielsen in various roles, culminating in her appointment as Business Development Director for Nielsen BookScan. In 2014, she moved back to her native Australia as an AD working on strategic projects for key clients. In her new role as Associate Director, Nielsen Book, Pacific, Winters will head the newly developed Australia and New Zealand book team, which will merge Nielsen Book's products and insights to provide clients with new solutions, while also driving revenue and growth for companies on all sides of the book business.
