Zogby Analytics Opens Small Communities Institute

US custom research provider Zogby Analytics has set up a division called the Small Communities Institute, to support towns and villages dealing with issues such as urban economic development planning and securing grants.

Zogby Analytics Opens Small Communities InstituteThe new division will address problems faced by smaller communities, including increasing crime rates, a dwindling tax base, increased unemployment, aging housing stock, and the exodus of young adults. Its team will evaluate current conditions through a combination of data analysis, telephone surveys, focus groups, executive interviews, online surveys, feasibility studies and dial testing. It will then provide a statement of community goals and objectives, and assistance with the preparation of a comprehensive plan to guide the future physical and economic development of the community - and will help to identify the resources needed to implement the plan.

CEO Jonathan Zogby explains: 'Planning is often thought of as an urban phenomenon, which is not considered necessary or even possible for small towns and rural communities. However, planning can assist in preserving the quality of life for the residents of the community, as well as retaining and attracting present and future residents. In addition, good planning can save money by increasing the efficiency of decision making'.
