Herring Replaces Anderson in OzTAM Chair

Australian TV audience measurement body OzTAM has appointed Richard Herring as independent Chairman, replacing Michael Anderson who has served in the role since 2011 and has decided to focus on his new role as CEO of MediaWorks New Zealand.

Richard HerringHerring brings more than thirty years' media industry experience spanning television, radio and outdoor, and has been CEO of APN Outdoor for thirteen years, leading it through an IPO in 2014. He is a board member and past Chairman of the Outdoor Media Association and the Australian out-of-home media industry's measurement system, MOVE. He joined APN when it acquired Cody Outdoor, which he joined in 1995 as General Manager of Sales and Marketing. Earlier, he worked ar Austereo, the Nine Network, Network Ten and Ogilvy and Mather (London).

OzTAM provides TV ad currency for the country's five metropolitan markets (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth), and nationally for subscription television.

Anderson says his successor 'brings exceptional understanding of our highly dynamic media sector and the critical importance of accountable audience measurement to stakeholders', welcoming his 'commercial acumen and extensive industry relationships'.

OzTAM's shareholders - Seven Network (Operations) Limited, Nine Network Australia Pty Limited and Network Ten Pty Limited - said of Anderson in a statement: 'Michael's strategic and leadership skills have been invaluable to OzTAM during a period of rapid industry change and intense scrutiny of audience measurement metrics. We thank him for his wisdom and guidance and wish him continued success in future'.

OzTAM has recently expanded its metropolitan and national subscription TV panels by 50 per cent and samples more than 10,000 people each day, making the country the world's largest per capita people metered market. The organisation's Video Player Measurement (VPM) measures Internet-delivered TV content, and this year it is adding a new Total Grocery Shoppers demographic to its ratings, alongside the existing 'Main Grocery Buyer' option.
